Hi there, I’m Marinna Kus and I’m the co-founder and director of Digital Dance Project. We are here to create a virtual theater experience for our artists and audience members by presenting exciting, original dance works through an online format.
As uncertainty around COVID-19 presents challenges for art communities around the world, we wonder when performances can safely resume in person. In the meantime, theatre is evolving to suit our current needs–finding a home on our TVs, our tablets, and even our phones.
As we built Digital Dance Project, we asked ourselves: can we create a completely virtual platform for performance from the ground up? Can we produce an arts venue for the 21st century?
Thanks to the technology at our disposal, we can. Leveraging modern-day tools allows us to conduct rehearsals online, working with dancers across the nation. This eliminates significant overhead costs such as leasing or renting studio space. Without the costs usually associated with running a dance company, we can prioritize paying our artists first. By leveraging low-cost platforms like Zoom and Crowdcast, we are also able to provide affordably priced tickets to our audience members, helping to make dance more accessible for everyone.
We recognize that this is a challenging time for all of us, not just those within the arts. With that in mind Digital Dance Project donates $1 from every ticket sold to organizations working to make the world a safer, healthier place.
How does our viewing process work?
If you attended any of our 2020 shows, you probably joined via Zoom for a watch party and then migrated over to Vimeo to view the screening. We’ve streamlined your screening experience for 2021 by upgrading to Crowdcast.io. Our Communications Leader, Cindy, is going to help illustrate this process.
To purchase your ticket, open your internet browser and go to our website. Navigate to our Events page and scroll down to the Tickets section. There, you can select your preferred date and time. When you click the Purchase Tickets button you will be taken to the Crowdcast event page to register for the watch party. If you have a coupon code you can include it where you see Cindy placing it now. From there, Crowdcast will take you through the purchase process.
At the time of the event, simply follow the link in your most recent reminder email and you will be able to view the watch party in real time!
You might be wondering, what is a Watch Party? Think of it as an informal pre-screening chat. These live events run about 20-30 minutes, and they are your opportunity to hear directly from our artists about the works included in the program. It’s not necessary to enjoy the screening, but we believe the additional context creates a more personal connection for the audience.
At the end of the watch party, we will stream the screening right within Crowcast. Once you join the watch party you can truly sit back, relax and enjoy the show.
Are there any parts of the show you’d like to watch again after the Crowdcast event is over? The purchase of your ticket also grants you access to watch the pre-recorded screening on demand through Vimeo the week following our watch parties.
Unable to make it to the watch party? Not a problem. We will continue to have a discounted screening only option available that will allow you to watch the screening without all of the fanfare of the watch party.
Thank you for watching! If you’d like to see what we’re up to, follow us on Facebook, and Instagram.
